I am police community support officer Leanne Black, and I am currently the PCSO for St Marys Ward which includes River Way, Pilgrims Way, Admirals Way, Vigo Road, Walworth Industrial Estate, Eastfield Road and Picket Piece. These are just a few areas that our beat covers. It is one of the largest beats in Andover. I work closely alongside PC Glen Dawber who is the beat manager for the area.

Myself and PC Dawber work together with outside agencies to improve the community’s quality of life by reducing crime and antisocial behaviour across St Marys ward.

Throughout the month of September the Safer Neighbourhoods Team has been conducting operations to target truants and underage drinkers. We have also increased patrols in hotspot areas, one of which being Vigo Park in Andover. We recognise that on a Beat report for Beat six, Andover (2)

Friday and Saturday evening, this has become the meeting place for youths drinking and acting in an anti-social manner, we will continue to target this area. After the success of the anti-social behaviour operations over the school holidays, we are continuing to work toward decreasing reports of this type to an even lower percentage. Although reports of Mini-Moto’s have now decreased due to the end of the school holidays, we are still hot on their heals with many Section 59 procedures being issued. These operations have resulted in several vehicles being taken off the road.

For the children, we are currently running a ‘Cop Swap’ scheme. These cards are given to youths under the age of 12 to collect and are in the style of Top Trumps. Each officer is rated on their agility, problem solving, pedal power and strength. The officer also gives a ‘top tip’ and an insight into their role. If a whole set is collected, a prize is awarded. There are over 170 to collect. These cards won’t just be given out at the station, the child must interact with the officer whilst out on the beat before the card will be given!

We are continuing to receive high interest in residents wanting to set up a Neighbourhood Watch in their community, if you are interested in setting one up then please contact Andover Police Station, or alternatively visit www.hantsnwa.org.uk . We have set up a street meet which is an opportunity to talk to us about you issues and concerns. This will be located on Pilgrims/River Way field every 2nd day of the month between 6 and 8 PM. We also run a regular beat surgery at Tesco River Way every 4th Sunday of the month from 6 till 8 PM. More street meets will be coming to your area soon.

If you have any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact either myself or PC Dawber at Andover police station.
