Beat report for Beat six, Andover (6)
I am police community support officer Leanne Black, and I am currently the PCSO for St Marys Ward which includes River Way, Pilgrims Way, Admirals Way, Vigo Road, Walworth Industrial Estate, Eastfield Road and Picket Piece. These are just a few areas that our beat covers. It is one of the largest beats in Andover. I work closely alongside PC Glen Dawber who is the new beat manager for the area.
Myself and PC Dawber work together with outside agencies to improve the community’s quality of life by reducing crime and antisocial behaviour across St Marys ward.
Throughout the month of December myself and the Andover safer neighbourhoods team have been working towards reducing the number of juvenile nuisance reports and dealing robustly with any anti-social behaviour. During the Christmas holidays we have worked hard to achieve this result and carried out Operations to target street drinking and general anti-social behaviour. These operations have resulted in large quantities of alcohol being seized. This month has been unusually quiet for the time of year, we have put this down to the weather and the fact that we have provided the town with a high policing presence.
The policing team are urging residents to remain vigilant and insure they do not leave valuables on show in their vehicles. The number of thefts from vehicles has risen over the past couple of months, this is mostly due to car owners leaving their vehicles insecure or leaving items on show.
We are also advising residents not to leave the empty present boxes from expensive Christmas presents outside the house. This is an advertisement for thieves to gain an insight as to what items are inside your home.
We are still looking for community’s to set up neighbourhood watch schemes in their area. We have found these to be very effective in the fight against crime. If you are interested in setting one up in your area then please contact Andover Police Station. We have set up a street meet which is an opportunity to talk to us about you issues and concerns. This will be located on Pilgrims/River Way field every 2nd day of the month between 6 and 8 PM. We also run a regular beat surgery at Tesco River Way every 4th Sunday from 10 AM till 12 PM.
We wish you all the best for 2010 from the Andover Safer Neighbourhoods Team.
If you have any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact either myself or PC Dawber at Andover police station.
