Beat Report for Beat Six, Andover (2)

PCSO Leanne Black

PCSO Leanne Black

I am police community support officer Leanne Black, and I am currently the PCSO for St Marys Ward which includes River Way, Pilgrims Way, Admirals Way, Vigo Road, Walworth Industrial Estate, Eastfield Road and Picket Piece. These are just a few areas that our beat covers. It is one of the largest beats in Andover. I work closely alongside PC Glen Dawber who is the new beat manager for the area. PC Dawber has recently moved from Winton Ward. PC Filippa has now taken his place in this area.

Myself and PC Dawber work together with outside agencies to improve the community’s quality of life by reducing crime and antisocial behaviour across St Marys ward.

Over the last few weeks we have been working towards reducing the level of Mini-Moto nuisance and general anti social behaviour in the area. These are our current priorities after speaking with local residents on the ward.

One of our main successes over the past few weeks is catching and dealing with several Mini-motos resulting in section 59 Warnings being given. Our regular operations to target underage drinking has also been successful with large quantities of alcohol being seized. Alcohol is one of the primary causes of anti-social behaviour. With the school holidays fast approaching, we are asking members of the public to be vigilant and parents to speak to their children to try to discourage unacceptable behaviour.

We rely on residents to report crime and anti-social behaviour to us so we can target specific areas and work on reducing the problems. If the problems go unreported, we do not know where the issues are. We have set up a street meet which is an opportunity to talk to us about you issues and concerns. This will be located on Pilgrims/River Way field every 2nd day of the month between 6 and 8 PM.

We are still encouraging residents of St Mary’s Ward to set up there own Neighbourhood Watch Schemes in their area. This is an effective tool in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour. If you would be interested in doing this, please contact Andover police station.

If you have any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact either myself or PC Dawber at Andover police station.
