A police spotter plane and dozens of officers were called out in Andover last night after a man claimed he had a gun.
A 999 call came in during the evening which led to a search lasting two and a half hours.
However no gun was seen during the incident and police are treating it as a fake call.
A 34 year old man from the town was detained under the mental health act and arrested on suspicion of wasting police time.
